How does work with DATA look like in your company?
Which one of these situations reminds you how your company works with data?
Imagine you want to find some information in a book in a local library.
Situation A)
- At secured entrance you need to show documents and fill in some forms to be allowed in
- No order in books, no indexing, you need to randomly search, reading through the books
- Maybe you will find out, that the book you need has to be ordered from some other library and it will take weeks
- Once you find the book, you will find out, that its damaged and parts are missing
- There are some librarians, but they are working on their agenda: fixing of broken books, cleaning the shelves etc.
- The one who is there for customers has a queue of 10 other customers waiting for help
- You use QR in your mobile app
- Its fully self service, clear instructions are available in app
- Books are clustered, sorted, indexed
- You can search “google like” in your app based on metadata in the catalogue, you are then directed to section, shelve…
- Books are complete and in a good shape
- If books need to be ordered from somewhere else, its there next day
- Librarians are there to maintain books, buy new interesting ones, order them, keep them in a good quality
- If you really have an issue, they are there to help
Being Data Driven means to work on same principles as in situation B).
Another good example could be with a shoe store. Imagine its not a self service shop with shoes exposed with some logic, where you can try the ones you like. But there is a guy to who you need to explain what shoes would you like, he runs into the back of the shop and brings you what he believes are the shoes you want.
